Mrs. Audrey Eleanor Simpson (nee Richardson) of Rimbey, Alberta, formerly of Nelson, B.C., passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the age of 95 years.

Audrey was born to Bernice and Frank Richardson in New Westminster, B.C. on April 25, 1913. She was the only daughter, with an older brother, Edwin and two younger brothers, Orval and John. As a young girl, Audrey was very active in the United Church Women’s League. Her ambition to be a registered nurse came to be in 1932, when she enrolled in nursing school at the Kootenay Lake General Hospital in Nelson. Audrey graduated in 1935, and she nursed until she was united in marriage to Laurence Simpson on April 10, 1940. This union was blessed with three children, Larry, Mel and Audreyann. Audrey and Laurence resided in Nelson for many years. Upon Laurence’s passing in 1987, she continued to live in Nelson until 2005, when at the age of 92 years she decided to move to Rimbey to be near her daughter and son-in-law. For many years, Audrey loved to knit and crochet for her family, and play bridge. She enjoyed the three years she spent in Rimbey and all the new friends she made. Audrey resided in the senior apartments at Kansas Ridge II until a stroke hospitalized her on April 14th of this year. She was able to celebrate her 95th birthday with her family on April 25, but passed away peacefully on May 9. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Larry (Gail) Simpson of Chilliwack, B.C.; and Mel (Trish) Simpson of Napa, California; and her daughter, Audreyann (Don) Bresnahan of Rimbey; as well as Susan Simpson of Napa, California. She was a wonderful mother and treasured grandmother to seven grandchildren and twelve cherished great grandchildren, Michelle (Rob) Carter and their children, Lauren and Davis; Trevor (Candy) Simpson and their children, Meghan and Tyler; Shaila (Alvin) Yeh and their children, Grace and Trentin; Austin Simpson; Paul (Audrey) Bresnahan and their children, Thomas and Rachel; Keith (Kathy) Bresnahan and their children, Simon and Stella; and Neil (Katrina) Bresnahan and their children, Alexandra and Jared. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother, John (Isabelle) Richardson of Salt Spring Island, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews, Pamie, Don, David, Greg, Valerie and Frank; in addition to many great nieces and great nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her husband, Laurence; her parents; and her two brothers, Edwin and Orval.

A Public Celebration of Audrey’s Life was held at the Kansas Ridge II Apartments, Rimbey on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Cremation. A Family Interment will be held at a later date in the Nelson Memorial Park Cemetery, Nelson, B.C.
