BUTLER

September 29, 1923 ~ April 20, 2011

It is with great sadness that the Butler Family announces the passing of Mr. Sydney C. Butler on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Olds, Alberta, in the comfort of his son's home with family at his side.

Sydney was born on September 29, 1923 at New Westminster, B.C. to Beatrice and John Butler. He was the youngest of four. Sydney was united in marriage to his wife of 65 years, Yvonne on December 10, 1945 in B.C. Sydney and Yvonne later relocated to Central Alberta and raised four children, Patricia, Sharon, Katheryn, and Sydney Jr. Sydney was a navy man, and after his discharge he occupied his life with many careers in Central Alberta. He operated a butcher shop, furniture store, ice cream parlours, drove school bus, and finally in 1962 he moved with his family to Rimbey where he purchased the Rimbey Bakery. He pursued his journeyman baker degree in 1962 and ran the Rimbey Bakery and Coffee Shop with his wife by his side, and later his son and daughter-in-law, retiring in 1995. Sydney was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Lions Club, and the Masons. He was a bowler, a fisherman, and he loved to dance, but Sydney was most proud to be a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His retirement years were spent traveling, fishing, golfing, and enjoying his family. In 2005, Sydney and Yvonne relocated to Olds to be closer to his son and family. With declining health and the passing of Yvonne on February 1, 2011, Sydney resided with his son and daughter-in-law. In keeping with his wishes, he remained at home until his passing.

"Sydney will always be remembered

for his dedication to his family, who will miss him greatly."

Sydney will be lovingly remembered by his four children, Patricia (Randy) Fiddler of Hinton; Sharon (Larry) Nelson of Robb, Alberta; Katheryn (Larry) Gunderson of Edson; and Sydney Jr. (Shirley) Butler of Olds; as well as eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; many other relatives; and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne; his parents and his siblings.

A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of both Sydney and Yvonne's Lives was held at the Rimbey Church of the Nazarene, Rimbey on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Mr. Dave Mulligan officiating. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Sydney and Yvonne's Memory may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 4N2; or to the Olds Hospital and Care Centre ~ Long Term Care, 3901 - 57 Avenue, Olds, Alberta T4H 1T4.
