Catherine M. Hughes of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre ~ Area Three on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the age of 96 years.
Catherine was born in Rimbey on June 5, 1921 on her father's homestead just east of Rimbey. She later met and was united in marriage to Garnet Hughes, and together they raised four children.
Catherine and Garnet owned and operated their own farm southeast of Rimbey. In 1972, they sold the farm and moved into Rimbey to enjoy a wonderful retirement together.
Throughout her 96 years, Catherine lived in the Rimbey area and was very proud to be a part of the community all her life.

Catherine will be forever remembered by her loving children: her son, Milton (Rose) Hughes of Red Deer; and her daughters, Jessie Sandmaier of Lamont, Alberta; and Dorothy (Gilbert) Suchy of Tofield, Alberta; as well as eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and seven great, great grandchildren.
She will also be forever remembered by her sister, Rose Stewart of Bashaw; numerous nieces and nephews; in addition to many other relatives and close friends.
Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Garnet in 2004; her daughter, Margaret McKay in 2013; two grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.
A Public Funeral Service in Celebration of Catherine's Life will be held at the Rimbey United Church, Rimbey on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Auburn Cemetery, Rimbey.
