TOEWS

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Claude Toews of Rimbey, Alberta was born at Linden, Alberta on June 19, 1932 to Abe K. and Elisabeth Klassen Toews. He departed this life on November 5, 2010 at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre with his family around him. He was 78 years old.

Dad spent his growing up years on the homestead at Crooked Creek, Alberta. He gave his heart to God and was baptized in 1944 at Crooked Creek by Minister Harry Wenger. Dad loved the church and had a concern for his family and their spiritual welfare. He married our mother, Mae Goossen at Rosenort, Manitoba on July 4, 1954, and they were married for 56 years. This home was blessed with five children. They lived in Linden for the first four years of their married life. In 1960, they moved to Sinclair, Manitoba where they spent the next 30 years. In 1990, they moved to Rimbey where he did what he loved doing, which was building. As soon as he was old enough to drive, Dad started work in the logging camps. Later, he also moved buildings with his father and brothers. When they moved to Sinclair, he became a farmer and a carpenter and drove school bus for many years. Dad and Mom opened their home to many foster children over the years. This carried over to when his grandchildren joined the family. His heart and home was open to every grandchild, no matter what color or race. He loved meeting and visiting with people and when they moved into Rimbey, he had the opportunity to make many friends. He was a great storyteller and loved to tell anyone who would listen, stories of his growing up years.

Left to cherish precious memories are his beloved wife, Mae; and his children, Lynn of Swanson, Saskatchewan; Mavis and Hilton Toews of Stenen, Saskatchewan; Bev and Greg Webb of Bluffton, Alberta; Wendell and Maxine also of Bluffton; and Tim and Sharon of Rimbey; as well as twenty grandchildren; and one special niece, Kendra Loewen of Bluffton. Also left to mourn are two sisters and three brothers, Margaret and Basil Evans; Lillian and Alvin Loewen; Vern and Mary Toews; Harvey and Eileen Toews; and Dennis and Hannah Toews; one sister-in-law, Anne Toews; Mom's family, Rosina Goossen; Harold and Annie Goossen; Marie Toews; Vernon Boese; Alfred and Marlena Goossen; Leonard and Evelyn Penner; Ernest and Pearl Thiessen; in addition to many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Leona and Viola; and three brothers, Wilf, Ed, and Marvin.

A Public Funeral Service was held at the Rimbey Church of the Nazarene, Rimbey on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Minister Bert Boese officiating. Interment followed in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey.
