December 30, 1950 - February 28, 2025

In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel "Dan" James Egeland of Rimbey, Alberta on Friday, February 28, 2025. Dan passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 74 years.

Dan was born on December 30, 1950, the sixth of nine children born to Ellard Robert "ER" and Jean Selma Egeland in High River, Alberta. He grew up in Blackie, Alberta and excelled at sports; including basketball, baseball, curling, plus track and field. Dan also enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, riding motor bikes, and classic cars. Throughout his high school years and for many years afterwards, Dan worked at the Egeland family John Deere dealership, right up until it was sold in 1981. His love for anything John Deere continued throughout his life. After the sale of the dealership, Dan moved north to the Bowden and Innisfail areas where he farmed and worked as a mechanic. He was then employed by Davron Trucking, and through a co-worker, Andrew, he met Pat. This meeting transformed into a long and loving relationship with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who Dan adored - and the feeling was mutual! After a few years, Dan bought his own manure spreader with Davron, and he made many friends while he was employed there. Dan also worked at Watts Projects, Pollitt Construction, and Crossfield Directional Drilling through the years. He gained many endearing nicknames fromfriends and family; including Pookie, Pook, Eggy, and Danny.

In 2006, Dan and Pat purchased their dream acreage just south of Rimbey, where Dan could fix up his collection of Ford trucks and keep himself busy with other projects on the property. Dan was always there to help anyone if they needed help, and many times they would end up staying with Dan and Pat until they were able to get back on their feet. He possessed a kind and caring heart. Dan cherished his friends and family immensely, especially the grandchildren, and he would spend as much time as he could with them. He would attend hockey games, piano recitals, hang with everyone at the acreage, or just simply relax and watch movies together. Dan also had a very special relationship with two of his nephews Jerry Ellice and Larry Molyneux, and their sons Luke and Justice, who were like grandchildren to him.

"Pook will be dearly missed by many. He touched many lives and will live on in our memories."

Dan is survived by his spouse Patricia Chapman; and his children Richard Chapman, Andrew Chapman, Michael (Marie) Chapman, and Helen (Alvin) Peck. Hewas adored by his grandchildren Cody, Cassandra (Len), Jesse, Erin (Paul), Kirstyn (Hayden), Janessa (Matt), Myles, and Harry; and his great-grandchildren Tashia, Trinity, Karson, Kaylee, Ryder, Lily, Quinn, Adalyn, Hope, and Raven. He is also survived by his brothers Bob (Linda), Ray (Jean), and Eric (Teresa); his sisters Velma Huntsberger, Jan (Jim) Ellice, Judy (Spence) Molyneux, Penny (Barry) Egeland, and Cindy (Doug) McFadden; as well as many nieces and nephews, and their children; several other extended family members; in addition to a large circle of treasured friends. Dan was predeceased by his parents, ER and Jean Egeland; his brothers-in-law Bob Huntsberger and William Marbrow; and his sisters-in-law Ann Pierce and Gwenda Scott.

A family-hosted Celebration of Pook's Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 79, 5138 - 49 Street, Lacombe, Alberta on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations in Dan's memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories, 306, 10430 - 61 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T6H 2J3 (www.alzheimer. ca).
