STUART

Mr. Derril Thomas Stuart of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the age of 92 years.

Derril was born on the family farm on January 30, 1919 to David and Mary Stuart, growing up with two brothers and three sisters. He was united in marriage to Daisy Kenney on June 5, 1941. After joining the army in 1942, Derril and Daisy moved several times; including Calgary, Wainwright, Kingston, Ontario and Rimbey, to name a few. During their many travels, together they raised five children: Gordon, Gerald, Linda, Evelyn, and George. With the demands of a growing family, Derril worked at many jobs from farming, to mechanic work, to lawn mowing, some of which the kids could help with as they grew up. In 1969, Derril and Daisy moved once more, this time settling into a new home in Rimbey where they were able to enjoy their semi-retirement. In their leisure time, Derril and Daisy enjoyed the outdoors, did a little traveling, and were able to enjoy some camping adventures. Derril continued to keep busy driving school bus, as well as driving bus for the gas plant. He also purchased a snowmobile, and later a motorcycle, of which he loved spending time riding with his sons, sons-in-law, and his grandchildren. It kept him feeling younger he stated, but after a fall or two, he put his bike away and ventured onto new things! Derril loved to work with wood, and he built toy boxes, wooden puzzles, cabinets and TV stands. He kept active mowing lawns and working gardens every spring and fall. After he sold the lawn and garden equipment, Derril continued with his passion for carpentry, and enjoyed volunteering in the community. He was kept busy with renovations, cabinetry, shingling jobs, building garages, doing finishing work for the church, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, driving on many trips with the Handivan, as well as calling bingo and playing smear at the Legion. Derril remained very active, filling his days and nights with the many activities he thoroughly enjoyed. His latest joy was to build wagons when his great grandchildren came, once again giving him that young feeling!

Derril will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 70 years, Daisy; two sons, Gordon Stuart (Hazel Hope) of Warburg; and George Stuart of Calmar; and two daughters, Linda (Peter) Mayr of Warburg; and Evelyn (Roy) Prentice of Devon; as well as nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Derril will also be lovingly remembered by three sisters, Katherine Hughes of Rimbey; Rose Stewart of Rimbey; and Mary Stewart of Lacombe; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Derril was predeceased by his son, Gerald in 2010; his grandson, Corey; and two brothers, Bill and Carl.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Rimbey on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Father Peter Sharpe, Celebrant. Interment followed in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bluffton. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Derril's Memory may be made directly to the charity of one's choice.
