ALBERS

Mr. Donald Melven Albers of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully in the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Tuesday November 3, 2009 at the age of 76 years. Don was born in Dawson Creek, British Columbia on July 19, 1933 and spent his early years on the family farm. When Don was in his early teens, the family relocated to the Mecca Glen District where his parents continued farming. Don left the family farm when he was in his mid teens and ventured out on his own into the work world. He spent many years working on the oil rigs as well as in the mines. When Don was twenty three, he returned to school in Red Deer for two years to complete his high schooling at Lindsay Thurber. Don then enrolled in the University of Alberta and graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1961. Don met Nadea Hryniuk in 1961 and they were united in marriage in 1962. He went to work for Hudson Bay Oil and Gas until deciding to return to the U of A to obtain his degree in Education. Don began his teaching career in Rimbey in 1964, teaching chemistry, physics and mathematics until his retirement in 1991. Don was a very strong community supporter, having worked on projects such as the construction of the Rimbey swimming pool and the old arena renovations. Don enjoyed gardening, coaching minor hockey and genealogy. Predeceased by his loving wife Nadea in 2008 and by his parents Johannes (Jack) and Pearl Marie Thompson, and special Aunt Lydia, Don is survived by his two sons; Tim (Lisa) Albers of Brooks, John Albers of Brooks, three daughters; Sandra (Dale) Zak of Red Deer, Glenda Albers of Kelowna and Brenda Albers of Edmonton, four grandsons; Tori and Austin Albers and Joel and Steven Zak. Don also leaves to mourn one brother; Jerry (Sharon) Albers of Bonnyville, Alberta and one sister; Nora (Lorne) Poulin of Grande Forks British Columbia. Funeral services will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium in Rimbey, Alberta on Tuesday November 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Mr. Don McFadyen officiating. Interment will follow in the West Haven cemetery Rimbey, Alberta. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Lung Association, P.O.
