SCHMIDT - Doris Alvina

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Doris on Dec 26th, 2012 after nearly a year long battle with cancer.

She was born on May 13, 1939 at the Wetaskiwin Hospital to Edward and Marjory Schmidt. The family moved to the Hoadley area in 1940 where her father farmed.

She started school in 1945 at the Pineville School at Hoadley walking the two miles or so with her older sister, Doreen and brother, Robert. After High School she took a secretarial course in Edmonton and worked for the Dept. of Mental Health for a number of years. She moved to Calgary in 1972 looking for a change of career and weather. She took a travel consultant course at SAIT and worked in that business in Calgary till moving to Toronto in 1989. She visited many countries enjoying Russia, Ireland, Greece as well as numerous others.

After retiring she moved back to Rimbey in 2009. Doris loved the arts, music and was an avid reader. She loved to cook and we all enjoyed letting her! In the last few years she started painting and was looking forward to her retirement to pursue that endeavor.

Doris is survived by her sister, Doreen (Fred) Glanfield of Rimbey, her brother, Jim Schmidt of Winfield, her brother Greg (Shirley) Schmidt of Neapean, Ont., her sister-in-law, June Schmidt of Manning as well as fourteen nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Edward in 1993, Marjory in 2010 and her brother, Robert in 2011.

Following Doris' wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held.

Her ashes will be buried at Hoadley beside her parents' graves in the spring.
