McElroy


It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Doris Belle McElroy. She was laid to rest in her saviours arms the morning of January 18, 2013 at the age of 89 years with her family by her side. Doris was born on April 26, 1923 in the Rimbey District (Lockhart) at her parents’ home to Paul and Clara Marie Pierson. She spent her entire life in the Leedale and Rimbey area.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children: Helen Alberta Adams, Barbara Elaine Munday, John Robert McElroy and Gary Owen McElroy. Doris was predeceased by her loving husband, Owen Jr. McElroy in 2002, a sister, Dorotha and two brothers-in-law. She is survived by one sister Lila Meyer of Villeneuve, Alberta Doris was not only a homesteader, neighbor, friend and caregiver but also contributed greatly to the compiling of family and community history, was a writer of a book outlining her own younger years and wrote a weekly news article for the Rimbey Record.

A celebration of her life was held on January 24, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Rimbey Community Centre. A Private family interment service followed in the Bradshaw Cemetery at Leedale, Alberta
