Doris Lillian

September 16, 2008

Doris Lillian Speer passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2008. Mom is free from pain and the crippling effects of MS now. The chains of the walker, cane or wheelchair are gone, She is free!

Doris was born and grew up in the Morley/Calgary area in Alberta. The youngest girl of a very large family, she was a bit of a tomboy, but she was always a lady to us.

She is survived by our daughters, June (Calvin) David of Sylvan Lake, Faye Speer of China, Carol Speer of Thorsby and Kathy Nash (Newton) of Calgary; four grandchildren, Chad and Ryan David, Don and Russell Speer; one great granddaughter, Christina David; and many sisters, brothers and friends. Doris loved life, she loved her family and her husband, Don Speer, who predeceased her in 1996.

Forever etched in our minds are the memories of mom playing cards, doing dishes, sitting at the counter drinking coffee and watching the late night news or movies. Our home was always filled with laughter from the latest jokes being shared or from the music mom and dad enjoyed to listen to . Mom was also a great cook but she did love to eat out a every opportunity.

Every spring, summer and fall she would spend hours in the garden tilling, pulling weeds and harvesting all kinds of vegetables. There were always flowers too. She took much pride in her garden.

A Celebration of Doris’ Life at the Chapel of the Sylvan Lake Funeral Home was held Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

Doris was always fun and there for us...we will love and remember her.
