Mrs. Dorothy Jean Gillette (nee Donald) of Rimbey, Alberta passed away in the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday June 22, 2011 at the age of 86 years. Dorothy was born on October 7, 1924 in Innisfail, Alberta. Dorothy resided with her family in the Innisfail area until she moved to Calgary to further her education prior to enlisting with the Royal Canadian Navy and serving in Halifax, Nova Scotia during WWII. On October 8, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ken G. Gillette. Upon her discharge from the Navy, Dorothy returned to Alberta and established a farm with Ken in the Red Deer area, where they continued to farm until 1958, when they moved to the Rimbey area to expand their farming operation. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Ken in 1990. Dorothy continued to farm until she retired into Rimbey. Dorothy is survived by three sons; Ken (Jill), Lee (Chris), Myles, and one daughter; Gail (Earl) Booth, nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Dorothy also leaves to mourn, one brother Don Donald and numerous extended family and friends. Funeral services were held from the Rimbey United Church on Wednesday June 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Interment followed in the West Haven Cemetery Rimbey, Alberta.
