Dwayne Metro

September 7, 2008

Mr. Dwayne “Poncho” E. Metro of Blackfalds, Alberta passed away at the Misericordia Hospital, Edmonton on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the age of 50 years.

Poncho was born in Bentley, Alberta on May 2, 1958. He loved to fish, golf, play ball and play pool. Nothing was more rewarding to Poncho than a garden, and he loved to ‘play’ in his garden and pick berries. In his younger years, he excelled in hockey. Poncho loved it when the kids celebrated a birthday so the family could all get together for a huge BBQ, with Poncho doing all the cooking, because “he is the only one that knows how to!” Poncho had some struggles in life that he was not proud of, but was very much looking forward to getting better, and getting ‘things’ back to the way they were supposed to be. Unfortunately, that was not to be. The family takes comfort in knowing Poncho is at peace, pain free, and fishing up in heaven with Mom and Dad.

Poncho will be lovingly remembered by his best and closest friend, Patty Clark; his son, Landon Metro; his daughters, Melissa Metro; Kirsten Metro (Tom Thompson) and their son, Ethan; and Hailey Metro; as well as Virginia Metro (mother to Landon, Kirsten and Hailey); his stepson, Cahlen Kelterborn; his stepdaughter, Krystin Clark; and his step-granddaughters, Hope, MacKenzie, and Rylee. He will also be lovingly remembered by three brothers, Steven (Crystal) Metro; David (Karen) Metro; and Allan (Vicky) Metro; his sister, Lorna Shymkowich (Johnie Joe); and his nieces and nephews, Campbell and Cory Metro; Cody and Krista Metro; Amanda and Troy Metro; and Justin and Ashley Shymkowich. Poncho was predeceased by his mother, Jeanette in 1990; and his father, Frank in 1996.

A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Poncho’s Life was held at the Bentley Community Church, Bentley on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Greg Rathjen officiating. Interment followed in the Bentley Cemetery, Bentley. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Poncho’s Memory may be made directly to STARS Air Ambulance, Building #16, 29 Airport Road N.W., Edmonton, Alberta T5G 9Z9.
