November 8, 1927 - June 29, 2020
Elaine Evangeline Cadsand of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Area Three on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the age of 92 years.
Elaine was born in her grandfather's home at Ghost Pine, Alberta on November 8, 1927. At the young age of three years, the family moved to Burnaby, B.C. It was there that she attended school until Grade 9. At the age of 17 years, Elaine and her Aunt Margaret entered hairdressing school. Elaine had to sell her guitar and cash-in her savings bonds to pay for her education. Elaine met Dan shortly after, and they were married on February 6, 1946. After their boys were born, Elaine and Dan decided to buy a ranch in Mamit Lake, B.C., where Dan worked as logger while Elaine stayed home and looked after the ranch doing chores and hairdressing. She was an extremely hard worker, and lived a very rustic lifestyle for many years. In 1972, Elaine and Dan relocated to Rimbey, bringing David and Gordon to what the boys call 'Lower Slabovia'. Elaine opened Elaine's Beauty Salon, working until the age of 80 years, when her hip gave out and she needed surgery. Family ties, history, and photographs were incredibly important to Elaine. She kept in touch with all her relatives and friends, handwriting letters and cards. Every summer Elaine would drive out to B.C., many times alone, to visit all her friends and relations, making her way across the province. She also loved her garden and flowers, spending hours outside planting and weeding. Elaine possessed a strong faith, kind nature, and a heart of gold ... always giving whatever she had to help someone out. She will be greatly missed.
Elaine will be forever remembered by her loving family: her three sons, Daniel (Sharon) Cadsand of Rimbey; David (Paula) Cadsand of Pike Lake, Saskatchewan; and Gordon (Lana) Cadsand of Rimbey; as well as seven treasured grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by three brothers: Art Gabara of Whonnock, B.C.; Mike (Linda) Gabara of Quesnel, B.C.; and Tom (Ena) Gabara of Comox, B.C.; and six sisters: Josie Bradford of Kelowna, B.C.; Noreen Gabara of Haney, B.C.; Marion (Johnny) Lillbeck of Mission, B.C.; Donna (Gordon) Dodgeson of Haney, B.C.; Carol (Al) Curtis of Vernon, B.C.; and Vickie (Jerry) Roraph of Enderby, B.C.; in addition to many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and countless friends and acquaintances. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Helen; her beloved husband, Dan in 2000; a grandson, Kyle; a granddaughter, Dianna; and her brother, Bob.
A Private Family Gathering to Celebrate Elaine's Life will be held at a later date.
