COX

Elizabeth "Betty" Margaret Cox (nee Steeves) of Rimbey, Alberta went to be with her Saviour on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the age of 84 years.

Betty was born on September 8, 1926, the eldest child of Fred and Amy Steeves, at her grandparents' home known as the Guess Ranch in Champion, Alberta. She attended country schools at Yetwood and Harmonien, one year at Prairie High School, and completed her Grade Ten at Rimbey High School. Betty then entered the work force, although she had been helping in neighbours' homes since the age of 13. She worked at the Bluffton General Store and Creamery, where she met George Cox. They were married in 1945, after which they managed the Bluffton Hotel for a short period. From there they moved to High River, Lethbridge, Salt Spring Island, Victoria, Hilliers and Vancouver. Eight children were added to the family. Betty returned to Hoadley in 1977 after her divorce, and for a time lived at the farm as a companion for her parents. After her parents' passing, she moved to Rimbey. Betty's interests were many and she excelled in crafts. Even in her teen years she involved herself in embroidery. From there she took up rock hounding, knitting, crocheting, painting, and even created masterpieces from discards. Many were the recipients of her gifted work.

Betty will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her seven children: Gordon, Helen (Dave), Ken (Barb), Allan (Liz), Lorraine, and Glenn, all of B.C.; and Shirley (Steve) of Idaho; as well as 18 cherished grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by her siblings: June (John), Jack (Ila), Janette (Edward), Margie (Wilf), Joyce (Elmer), and Sharon (Richard); in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Amy; her daughter, Diane; her grandson, Christopher; an infant brother, Kenneth; her sister, Jean; her brother-in-law, Orville; and her granddaughter- in-law, Valerie.

A Public Funeral Service in Celebration of Betty's Life was held at the Hoadley Evangelical Missionary Church, Hoadley on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Barry Klassen officiating.
