MORROW
ELVA MAY MORROW passed away peacefully
with her children by her side Friday, July
8, 2005 at the Northcott Care Centre in Ponoka,
Alberta at the age of 84 years.
Elva was born on December 1, 1920 in Carstairs,
Alberta. Her proud parents were Vern and May
Parker. In 1929 the family moved to Horn Hill
and then to Rimbey in 1935. Elva graduated from Rimbey High
School and then moved to Calgary where she worked at the Hudson
Bay Company for many years. She returned to Rimbey and worked
at a doctor’s office which spurred her interest to become a certified
nurses aide, graduating from Calgary nursing school in 1957. Elva
then got a job at Alberta Hospital Ponoka, she was employed there
14 years. During that time she met her first husband, Martin Gage
and had 2 children. Elva and her children left Ponoka and moved to
Lloydminster in the early ‘70's where she worked at a senior’s lodge
and married Robert James Morrow. The family eventually returned
to Ponoka for several years and then to Rimbey where Elva worked
at Rimoka Lodge until she retired. Elva lived at the seniors
apartments for many years and then moved to Lacombe Seniors
Lodge in 2000. She then moved to Ponoka Northcott Care Centre
in September 2003.
Due to a critical illness of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy she was
unable to care for herself. During the past two years Elva maintained
her courage, dignity and never complained even when she
was low. We will fondly remember her by her keen sense of humour,
her mischievious smile, her love of animals, people, crafts, flowers,
and her paintings.
Elva will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her son,
Wesley Gage of Lacombe, daughter Kathy and son-in-law Bob
Doornenbal of Cochrane, Alberta, sister Madeline Uhl of Red Deer,
and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her parents Vern and May Parker.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 15, 2005 at Rimbey United
Church, 4931-51 Ave, Rimbey, Alberta at 1:00 p.m. Interment to
