1930 - 2020 ~ Mr. Ernest 'Ernie' Repas of Poplar Ridge, Alberta passed away in his home, on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the age of 89 years.
Ernie was born in Hillcrest, Alberta. His parents emigrated from Hungary; and Ernie was the first family member to be born in Canada. In 1933, the Repas family moved to Leedale, Alberta and started a career in farming.
As a young adult, Ernie worked in British Columbia at the Sawmills. He moved back to Leedale and met Myrtle Lawson; they were married in Lacombe, Alberta in 1953, and lived on the Repas Farm. They raised five children; which meant farming didn't always pay the bills; so Ernie also worked on Oil Rigs, drove truck, and started a Backhoe Business "Western Excavating".
Ernie's dream was to retire at the age of fifty years of age, which he fulfilled. Ernie and Myrtle then moved to Courtenay, British Columbia; where he took a job operating a Crane for a Hydroline Company. They returned thirteen years later in 1993, to make their home in Poplar Ridge, Red Deer County, until his passing.
Ernie had many self-taught skills: including electrical, carpentry and woodworking, mechanical, plumbing, and heavy equipment operator, and he was one hell of an Accountant.
Ernie will be very lovingly remembered by his two sons, Ken (Sherry) of Drayton Valley, Alberta and Earl (Francine) of Rimbey, Alberta and his two daughters, Reita (Lester) of Drayton Valley and Sheila (Robert) of Rocky Rapids, Alberta. Ernie will also be greatly missed by his twelve grandchildren; his nineteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; and his sister, Violet Solberg of St. Albert, Alberta. Ernie was predeceased by his loving wife, Myrtle, a son Alan, his parents, Abel and Mary, his brothers, Vidor, Charles and Joseph and a sister, Helen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Rimbey Drop In Centre, Rimbey, Alberta on Monday, January 20, 2020. If desired, Memorial Donations in Ernie's honor may be made directly to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation at www.albertadiabetesfoundation.com.
