FLORENCE DUNCAN

1935 - 2011


Florence Lillian Duncan of Bentley, Alberta, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Innisfail General Hospital on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the age of 76 years. Flo was born in Stettler, Alberta and later moved to Sylvan Lake, Alberta, where she met her late husband, Roy Duncan. In March of 1955 they married and began farming in the Rainy Creek District. The family-run dairy and grain farm flourished under their guidance until their retirement to Red Deer in 2000. Flo was an active member of minor hockey, United Church Women, The Golden Star Club and the Rainy Creek community. Flo and Roy enjoyed many years of travelling, especially the fifteen fun-filled years spent at their winter home in Arizona. Flo will be remembered as a loving mother, doting grandmother and generous neighbour. Flo will forever remain in the hearts of her children Rick (Louise) Duncan of Sylvan Lake, Dennis (Laurie) Duncan of Bentley, Barry (Melanie) Duncan of Sylvan Lake and Diana (Rick) Gravells of Fort St. John, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish warm memories of Flo are her two brothers Neil (Dorothy) Nourse of Red Deer and Fred Nourse of Calgary and her three sisters Veronica Kanten of Sylvan Lake, Irene Strader of Nelson and Faye Byer of Red Deer. Flo was predeceased by her husband Roy, two sisters and five brothers. A celebration of Flo's life was held from the Chapel of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 - 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. In honor of Flo, memorial donations may be made directly to the Ronald MacDonald House - Suite 707B, 5010 43 Street, Red Deet, AB T4N 6H2 or The STARS Foundation - Box 570, 1441 - Aviation Park NE, Calgary, AB T2E 8M7.
