Garlo Berkenkamp

1933 - 2012

Garlo Berkenkamp died peacefully on July 26, 2012 at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Garlo was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. In 1951 Garlo married William (Bill) Berkenkamp and in 1962, along with her husband and children, she immigrated to Lacombe, Alberta where over many decades she remained active in the Order of Eastern Star and other volunteer and charitable causes. Garlo was an accomplished pianist, having completed her Royal Conservatory studies in the 1970's during which time she also became a proud Canadian citizen.

Garlo, predeceased by her son, Dale, is survived by her husband, Bill Berkenkamp of Rimbey; son, Brodie Berkenkamp of Calgary; daughter, Christine Berkenkamp Leinweber (Robert) and sister, JoAnne Martin (Ken) of Taylor, Arizona; as well as numerous loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As per her wishes, Garlo will be honored in a private family ceremony when the trees on the Berkenkamp land west of Rimbey begin to change to autumn colour. Her home, west of Rimbey, which she shared with her husband Bill, was her favorite place in the world.

The family would like to thank Dr. K. Adzich of Rimbey, whose immense expertise and compassion was incredibly valuable in the last years of Garlo's life.

Garlo will be deeply missed.
