GOING, Gerald Edward

In the Winfield, Alberta countryside on the morning of October 4th, 2010, Gerry Going passed away after an incredible life in rural Alberta. Born June 7th, 1928 in Ottawa, Ontario, he came west as a young man with the dream in his heart of ranching in the Alberta Foothills. He became a livestock Auctioneer renowned throughout Western Canada, a cattle and horse rancher in south-central Alberta, an owner and breeder of champion working, showing and racing horses of both quarter horse and thoroughbred breeds, and together with Anne raised six children.


Gerry is pre-deceased by his eldest daughter Cheryl and survived by his wife Anne and children Brent, Leslie, Shaun, Michael and Lori; sons and daughters-in-law Leslie, John, Nan and Tim; grandchildren Matt, Josh and Liam Hall, Aaron, Alexis and Dane Saunders, Sophie Going and Quinn Going-Rycroft; and great-grandchildren Tylan and Evryn Saunders.


The family will hold a celebration of Gerry's life at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13th, 2010 at the Red Deer Lake United Church, adjacent to Red Deer Lake School on Highway 22X at 37th Street S.W., Calgary.
