Gertrude Helen Lick (nee Binding)
Gertrude Helen Lick was born in Germany September 15, 1909 and died January 8, 2009 in Ponoka at the age of 99 years. Left to mourn her passing are Alice & Henry Paetkau of Ponoka and Edith & Pete Butkiewicz of Calgary; nephew Fred (Doreen) Broska of Wetaskiwin County; along with 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a myriad of friends around Ponoka and throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Her husband Ed and sister Erna predeceased her by over twenty years. We hereby mark the departure of one of Park Springs early pioneers and great area gardener - a joy that she bestowed upon her children. She was a great cook and baker who enjoyed entertaining friends & neighbors; no one left her kitchen without a coffee and something to eat. After the death of her husband Ed she moved into Reid Manor and lived there for over 25 years. She was happiest here when entertaining her circle of friends. Gertrude’s last few years were spent at Northcott Care Centre. Memorial donations can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Kitchen Renovation Fund or to the charity of your choice. A Funeral Service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ponoka at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14th with the Interment Service following at Forest Home Cemetery.
