MEIKLE
Gladys Eileen Meikle (nee Boake) of Creston, British Columbia, formerly of Rimbey, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Creston Valley Hospital, Creston on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the age of 91 years.
Eileen was born on April 16, 1920 at Edmonds, British Columbia to George and Elma Boake. She moved with her family to Hoadley, Alberta when she was just a girl. Although life had taken her away at times, Hoadley had always been her home! Eileen was united in marriage to Bill Meikle on June 16, 1938. Her life was soon very busy with a growing family. She had six children, cooked in several logging camps, and even home schooled her two oldest children in those early years. In 1954 Eileen and Bill invited Jesus to enter their hearts and home. Later when they moved to Rimbey, Eileen took employment at the Rimbey Hospital as part of the kitchen staff.
Eileen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons, Colin (Shirley) of Qualicum Beach, B.C.; Allen (Gail) of Ponoka; Murray (Elva) of Creston, B.C.; and Grant (Janet) of Grindrod, B.C.; her son-in-law, Jack McMillen; and her daughter-in-law, Miriam Meikle; as well as twenty-two grandchildren, fourty-eight great grandchildren, and nine great, great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by a host of extended family, friends, and her church family. Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill in March, 2002; her son, Ivan in April, 2011; her only daughter, Arlene in May, 1969; her grandson, Lonnie in 1969; her daughter-in-law, Kelly in 1983; as well as her parents and all five of her siblings, Kingsley, Theta, Toler, Lorna and Olive.
A Public Funeral Service in Celebration of Eileen's Life was held at the Hoadley Evangelical Missionary Church, Hoadley on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Steve Budd officiating. Interment followed in the Hoadley Cemetery, Hoadley.
