It is with heavy hearts we bid farewell to a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, neighbour and friend. Gord touched the lives of many in his 84 years. Generous and encouraging, always with a smile, he made the best of every day.
Born and raised in Calgary, he farmed in the Bluffton area for 48 years and was active in rodeo, gymkhana, hockey and community groups. You could always count on him to lend a helping hand, no matter the time or the task. Gord made friends with everyone, always interested in their stories, he never forgot a name or face and accepted people for who they were. Animals, especially horses and dogs, held a special place in his life.
Above all else, Gord valued family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Pat, four children: Ann (Mitch), Susan (Dale), Lorraine (Wayne), Will (Carey). Ten grandchildren: Nicole (Ryan), Jenna, Allison (Anthony), Bobbi (Wade), Kelsey (Cody), Travis, Tyson (Rosalyn), Jayden, Jordan and Kylie and eleven great grandchildren. Also remembered by his brothers Larry and Bob, sister Joan (Gordon) Moore and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Mary and Charlie Spreadbury and grandson Trevor Wedlund.
Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Boere and all staff at Rimbey Long Term Care Center for their kindness, care, and compassion.
A celebration of Gord’s life will be held on September 16 at 3:00 pm with a service and open house, outdoors, at the farm he loved, located at the Spreadbury Farm, located 12 km west of Rimbey on Highway 53 to Range Road 40. 6.5 km North to TWP Rd 432. Turn right 1st farm on the left.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Second Chance Animal Rescue Society, Athabasca Alberta (SCARS rescued faithful companions Chance, Maggie and Kingston) or STARS Air ambulance.
