Harold Wesley Shipton was born on February 6, 1924 in Castor, Alberta and passed away on July 29, 2011 in the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. Harold (nick-named Hezz by family and friends) was the second oldest of six children born to Charles and Rose Shipton. Harold lived and worked on the family farm in the Bulwark Area east of Castor until the age of sixteen when he went to work on the Blume family farm. Harold married Edna Baker from the Halkirik area in 1951. They farmed and raised their family (Wes and Bev) in the Ponoka and Crestomere areas and they happily celebrated their 60th Anniversary in May of this year. Harold is survived by his loving wife Edna, son Wes (Susan) and his children Connie, Jason, Jalayne and Kelly; daughter Bev Bragg and her children Kristen Lloyd, Ashley Bragg and Tanner Bragg; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Doris (Gilbert) Swaren of Whitecourt; brother Jim (Jackie) Shipton of Winfield, B.C.; and sister Phyllis Walcheske of Ponoka; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Tom and sister Freda Poffenroth. A visitation took place at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Friday, August 5 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Harold was then taken by horse drawn coach to his final resting place at the Forest Home Cemetery, Ponoka where a graveside service took place. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre Palliative Care Centre, the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
