Harvey Allan Haarstad of Bentley, AB., passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of May 13, 2012 at the age of 84 years. Harvey was born on August 1, 1927 in Bentley, AB., to Edward and Anna Haarstad. He attended Stephenson School. He was married to Ruby Woods on January 25, 1948. Harvey was a proud farmer his entire life and also a proud member of his community. He was a life member of the Bentley Elks #318 and enjoyed contributing many volunteer hours with the club. He took great joy in his children’s activities including hockey, 4-H, camping, etc. Harvey was predeceased by his wife, Ruby, his daughter, Cheryl and grandson, Jay. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Alice, Gertrude, Menda, Helen, Velma and brothers, Ervin, Clarence and James. Harvey is survived by daughter Lynda (Garry) Petten, sons, Everett (Sherry) Haarstad, Ken (Leslie) Haarstad and Larry (Donna) Haarstad. He is also survived by his sisters, Nellie, Helen, Shirley and Evelyn. Grandpa Harvey will be very much missed by his twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends. A celebration of Harvey’s life was held on Friday, May 18th, 2012. The inurnment and graveside service will be held at the Vig Cemetery, Grace Lutheran Church at 11:30 a.m. All family and friends are welcome to attend. A memorial celebration will follow at the Blindman Valley Agricultural Centre in Bentley at 1:00 p.m.
