Hilda Irene (Becker) passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC on June 11, 2010. Born June 19, 1922, she was predeceased by her parents, Syd and Carrie Handbury and her three brothers, Jack, Bruce and Nelson. Hilda is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters, Carol (John Gran) of Arizona, Sheila Becker of Winfield, Alberta, Shirley Bjur of Burnaby, BC and Marcie (Len Cardiff) of Shawnigan Lake, BC; sons, Ken (Elaine) Becker of Breton, Alberta and Doug (Evelyn) Becker of Warburg, Alberta; sisters, Doris Sprinkling of Victoria and Helen (Ladd) Parsons of Camrose, Alberta as well as twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The Handbury family were pioneers in the Winfield, Alberta area where Hilda was born and lived for many years. Her nursing career began in Camrose and continued in Victoria until she retired in 1991. Hilda was a compassionate nurse, a loving mother and grandmother and a generous citizen.
"Our Mother was loved and will be greatly missed. She is safe in the arms of Our Lord and we look forward to the day we will all meet again."
A celebration of Hilda's life will be held at Breton Community Centre on July 17 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. It is the wish of Hilda's family that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. St. Mary Hospital, 861 Fairfield Road, Victoria, BC V8V 5A9. This is where she spent the last four years of her life.
