CASEY

Mr. Howard (Bud) Casey passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in the Rimbey Health Care Centre on Friday January 20, 2012 at the age of 92 years.


Howard, more widely known as Bud, was born in Carstairs, Alberta on November 9, 1919 to Merle and Harriet Casey. Bud was raised along with his sisters, Lyla and Agnes, on his grandmother Casey's farm near Crossfield, Alberta. The family moved to the Leafland District near Leslieville in 1932 where Bud finished his schooling at the Leafland School.


On August 18, 1941 Bud married Ruth Parsons, they had five children; Wade, Gail, Beverly, Darryl and Shauna. Bud and Ruth farmed in the Gimlet District for 65 years before moving to Rimbey in 2005. Bud and his family left the farm briefly from 1953 to 1956 when he went to work for the Forestry Department as a District Forest Ranger stationed in Cadamin and then in McLennan. Bud also worked for the railroad for a few months in McLennan and then the family moved back to their farm at Gimlet. Bud was an avid fisherman and loved camping, riding his quad, his horses and basically doing anything that involved the great outdoors. He liked to play the violin and the saxophone, play crib with friends and family, and he was active in community events especially the local Gimlet Rodeo. Bud will be missed by family and friends.


Bud was predeceased by his eldest son, Wade, his parents, Merle and Harriet, one sister, Agnes, his foster brother, Ralph English, five grandchildren, Rodger, Merle, Maxine, Tammy and Timmy, brother-in-laws, Ray Parsons, Harold Allen, Clarence Spooner and brother-in-laws and their spouses, Howard (Harriet) Parsons, Bob (Daisy) Roberts, Jack (Ivy) Roberts, Charles (Violet) Parsons, and Len (Lela) Parsons.


Bud is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Ruth of Rimbey, daughters Gail Casey (Norris), Beverly Lowe (David), Shauna Casey and by his son Darryl Casey (Julie) fifteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren. Bud also leaves to mourn, one sister, Lyla Allen, one sister-in-law Esther Atkinson, special family friend Gayle English and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.


A celebration of Bud's life will be held from the Leslieville Community Hall on Saturday January 28, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Pastor David MacMillan officiating.
