Mrs. Irene E. Hohn of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre ~ Area Two, Rimbey on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the age of 96 years.
Irene was born in Wilmer, British Columbia on May 18, 1914, the first child of Herbert and Flora Bryanton. The family moved to Rimbey in 1927 when she was 13 years old. Irene was united in marriage to Joe Hohn in 1931, and they farmed together west of Rimbey for many years. Irene also worked at the Rimbey Bakery and at the Rimbey Veterinary Clinic for several years. Irene and Joe retired to Rimbey in 1970, where she has resided until her passing. Irene loved her chickens, gardening, cooking, sewing, ice fishing and yelling, ‘bingo’!
Irene will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son, Leo (Katrina) Hohn of Rimbey; her daughter, Betty (Aurele) Dubé of Bluffton; as well as five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and eight step-great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her brother, Carl (Esther) Bryanton of Rimbey; her sister, Edna Pratt, also of Rimbey; her sister-in-law, Edna Bryanton of Drayton Valley; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Joe in 1984; her daughter, Joyce Pierlot in 2001; her son-in-law, Bud Pierlot in 2004; four brothers; and four sisters.
In accordance to Irene’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. Interment will be held in the summer of 2011 in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey.
