In 1971 Janet returned to Alberta, settled in Edmonton to begin her career with her first love of her life – BOOKS, working in the Woodwards Book Store at Southgate Mall. From Southgate Janet worked for Smith Books Store at the International Airport and Mill Woods. There Janet acquired some of her most prized possessions, a large collection of books, including many signed first editions.

While in Edmonton Janet also became the proud parent of her treasured cat Cleo, given to her from the family farm in Bentley.

In 1998 Janet retired to Bentley and became a very active community member until her passing.
