JONES

Mrs. Jessie Chisholm Jones (Stawart) of Rimbey, Alberta, beloved wife of Albert Stanley “Stan” Jones, passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the age of 90 years.

Jessie was born on August 29, 1917 at home in the Homeglen District (currently the Alex Polushin farm). She later moved with her family up the road to be closer to the Homeglen School. This long-time home became known as the Stawart farm, and later, the Jones farm. Jessie and Stan were united in marriage in 1943, and in 1951, they purchased the Stawart farm from Jessie’s parents, where they remained until their retirement in 1974. Jessie loved the farm and all the work involved. Like most farm wives, she helped in the fields, did farm chores, grew a garden, prepared meals, and found time to be involved in the community. Jessie was a life-long member of the Homeglen Ladies Club and was actively involved until recently, but welcomed members when they would come and hold their meetings at her home in town. She also gave a lot of time to keeping the Homeglen Hall clean and ready for the next event. Family, friends and neighbours were extremely important to Jessie, and she was never too busy to make a cup of tea or a pot of coffee for anyone who happened by. She was most happy when she was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandsons. Jessie enjoyed quilting and embroidery, and she gave many of those quilts as gifts. Many hours were spent over the years enjoying card games with neighbours, and teaching those same games to the kids.

Jessie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 64 years, Stan; her daughter, Gwen Boyce of Bluffton; her grandchildren, Shauna Boyce of Spruce Grove; Shannon Boyce Campbell of Rimbey; and Steven (Teri) Boyce of Bluffton; as well as three great grandsons, Sam and Owen Campbell and Benjamin Boyce. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sister, Isabelle (Frank) Morton of Victoria, B.C.; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Jessie was predeceased by her parents, Richard “Dick” and Sarah Stawart; her brother, James Stawart; two sisters, Mary Bascom and Jean Mackenzie; an infant brother, Richard; and her niece, Hannah “Ann” Sauve.

A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Jessie’s Life will be held at the Rimbey United Church, Rimbey on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. A Private Family Interment Service will take place in the Forest Home Cemetery, Ponoka at 10:00 a.m. Cremation took place in Red Deer, Alberta.
