Dr. John Herbert More of Rimbey, Alberta passed away on Tuesday October 27, 2009 in the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 91 years.

John was born in a sod house during a rural Saskatchewan blizzard on January 2, 1918. He spent WW2 in Europe in the Canadian Signal Corp, moving to Manitoba after the war to study medicine. He and the family moved to Rimbey in 1966 where he stayed for the remainder of his life. In addition to practising medicine, he was active in many community organizations including the Royal Canadian Legion, the Rimbey United Church, the Lions, and the School Board. He was a long time community activist and a committed advocate for public health care.


He will be missed by his family and many friends.


Predeceased by his parents, George and Annie as well as by one brother, Jamie and a sister, Mary, John is survived by his loving wife, Margaret of Rimbey, five daughters; Margaret Ledingham of Rimbey, Heather (Richard) More of Creston, British Columbia, Nancy More of Vancouver, Lillian More of Edmonton and Susan More of Vancouver. Dr. More is also survived by five grandchildren.


Funeral services were held from the Rimbey United Church on Saturday October 31, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Inurnment of the cremated remains followed in the Field of Honour in the West Haven Cemetery Rimbey, Alberta.


If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Rimbey United Church, The Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre or to the Rimbey Legion.
