September 22, 1943 - March 15, 2010

Mr. John Mathew McCallum of Bluffton, Alberta passed away at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton on Monday, March 15, 2010 at the age of 66 years. John was born in London, England on September 22, 1943, and moved to Canada when he was three years old. He started working at an early age for various farmers and neighbours, before being employed in Oyen for the Department of Highways as a grader operator. In 1973, John moved to Viking and worked as a school bus driver, grader operator, and on a dairy farm. Later, he spent several years trucking in various parts of Canada and the United States. John met Myron and Carey Pearman in 1979, and started a lifetime friendship and a career as a mechanic. John married the love of his life, Diane Carter in 1993. In 2000, John and Diane purchased their farm at Bluffton, where they currently reside. John will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Diane; his daughter, Annette (Bob) of Lacombe and their family, Andrew, Casey, Danny (Melinda) and great grandson, Jayden of Rimbey; his son, Allan (Stacie) and their family, Zander and Arley of Lougheed, and Jake of Bluffton. He will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by two brothers, Mike (Lorna) McCallum of Wainwright; and Brian McCallum of Calgary; two sisters, Diane (Walter) Walker of Oyen; and Daphne (Brian) Schnurer of Elk Point; his mother-in-law, Margaret Carter of New Brigden, Alberta; and his brother-in-law, Robert Carter, also of New Brigden; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. John was predeceased by his father, Matt in 1982; and his mother, Eileen in 2006. A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of John's Life will be held at the Bluffton Community Hall, Bluffton on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Doreen Sturla-Scott officiating. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. If friends desire, memorial tributes in John's Memory may be made directly to the Arthritis Society, 200-1301 8 Street S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2R 1B7; or to the charity of one's choice.
