John William HICKS

May 21, 2005

Mr. John William Hicks of Bluffton,

Alberta passed away at his home on

Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the age of 74

years.

John was born on December 6, 1930 and raised in High

River, Alberta. He met Ann (Kozak) in High River where

Ann was working in the hospital, and they were united in

marriage in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. John and Ann

started their life together in High River, where their first

child, Jean was born. In 1963, John and Ann purchased

land in the Bluffton community and went into the farming

business. Soon after, three more children; Marilyn, Deb

and Lloyd, were born in the Rimbey hospital. For a time,

John would supplement his beef and dairy operation by

occasionally working off the farm running dozer. He was

always happy when his children, and especially grandkids,

came to visit. John took great pride in finding out he had

recently become a great grandfather. Being referred to as

‘great’ brought a smile to his face. Before his passing,

John had the joy of meeting his great grandchildren.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ann; and

his children, Jean (Dorn) Becker of Wembley, Alberta;

Marilyn (Phil) Becker of Ardrossan, Alberta; Deb (Tim)

Chmarney of Bashaw; and Lloyd (Susan) Hicks of

Edmonton. He is also survived by his four special

grandchildren; two treasured great grandchildren; as well

as his sister, Florence (John) Kubicek of High River. John

was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Matthew

Hicks; and his grandson, Justin Becker.

Funeral Services in Celebration of John’s Life were held

at the Bluffton Community Hall, Bluffton, on Friday,

May 27, 2005 at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Corey

Anderson officiating. Cremation followed in Red Deer,
