MAYER
January 4, 1929 - February 4, 2010
Mr. Joseph "Joe" C. Mayer of Winfield, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre - Area Three, Rimbey on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the age of 81 years. Joe was born at home on the family farm in the Yeoford area on January 4, 1929. Through the years, he worked away from the farm in the oil patch, lumber industry, or wherever he could find work. Joe always returned home to the farm and did his part of tending to the land. A number of years ago, the farm sold and he purchased a little house in Winfield. For a few years, Joe spent his winters in the West Pine Lodge and his summers at his little shack. He eventually moved into the Lodge full-time until poor health this past August placed him into the Rimbey Hospital. Joe's health did not improve, and he was transferred into Long Term Care in Rimbey until his passing. Joe will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his two brothers, Bill Mayer of Fort St. John, B.C.; and Fred (Arlene) Mayer of Sorrento, B.C.; in addition to a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Frieda and Joseph Mayer; his brother, Rudy; and his sister and her husband, Frieda and Morris Rowland. A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Joe's Life was held at the Winfield Community Hall, Winfield on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeanette Engblom officiating. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. Interment will follow at a later date in the Bunker Hill Cemetery, Winfield.
