Mrs. Mabel Ervin of Rimbey, Alberta
passed away in the Rimbey Hospital and
Care Centre on Friday June 3, 2005 at the
age of 91 years.
Mabel was born to Carl and Gena Aske.
She was the fifth of eleven children. The
Aske family resided near Millet, Alberta.
In 1932, Mabel married Sam Ervin. They began their married
life in Leedale where they worked in the sawmill and farmed.
In 1967 after Sam’s passing Mabel moved to Northern
Alberta to work as a camp cook for a bridge crew. During
this time she met her companion, Bob Rose. They made
their home in Clairmont, Alberta and later retiring in Chase,
BC. After Bob’s passing in 1986, Mabel moved to Red
Deer to be closer to her family. In 1993 she moved to Rimbey.
Mabel lived independently until 2002 when she became a
resident of the Rimbey Long Term Care facility.
Mabel loved to crochet, read, camp and spend time
outdoors. She particularily loved the mountains. She had
a wonderful sense of humour. Mabel enjoyed her family,
friends and all the people she met along her way.
Predeceased by her loving husband Sam, son Kenneth,
daughter Marie Tkacik, three sisters and four brothers,
Mabel will be fondly remembered by her daughter Eleanor
Skogman of Winfield, son Dwayne and his wife Jane of
Okotoks, her eleven grandchildren, eleven great
grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Mabel also
leaves to mourn her two sisters Hazel Varty and Violet
Belt, both of Rimbey.
The family would like to Thank all of the people who
showed their respect in the form of food, cards, flowers
and kind words.
Funeral services were held from the Rimbey United Church
on Wednesday June 8, 2005 at 2:00 PM with Reverend
Deborah Laing officiating. Inurnment followed in the
Mount Auburn Cemetery, Rimbey, Alberta.
