Mrs. Marian Reade of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre ~ Area Two on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the age of 106 years.
Marian was born to Edwin Robert and Mary Ann Sinclair in Slades Green, England, the youngest of four children. The family moved to Canada in 1906, settling in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Marian was educated in Medicine Hat, and after graduating high school she attended Garbett Business College. She worked as a secretary in a law office and later with the Department of Agriculture. Her lifelong passion was her music, having trained on both piano and organ. At the age of 16 years, she was appointed organist and choir leader at Knox Presbyterian Church. On July 29, 1929, Marian was united in marriage to Frank Reade. Music remained an important part of her life, playing at several churches in Medicine Hat. In 1953, Marian, Frank and their son, Glenn changed their lifestyle and chose farming at Cassils, Alberta. In 1958, Marian and Frank "retired" to an acreage outside Vernon, B.C. where they were employed by Interior Adjusters. Both were avid lawn bowlers, active in the senior citizen choir, and enjoyed travelling in Canada and abroad. They returned to Alberta in 1985, residing in Breton and then to the Parkland Manor in Rimbey in 1991. Frank passed away in September, 1997, and Marian moved to Rimbey Extended Care in 2004 where music continued to be a source of joy in her life. Even up to three days before her passing, Marian joined family members in singing favorite songs.
Marian will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by two children, her son, Glenn (Olga) Reade of Westerose, Alberta; and her daughter, Joanne (Doug) McRae of Condor, Alberta; as well as eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
With respect for Marian's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Marian's Memory may be made directly to the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0; or to the charity of one's choice.
