Maryann Olson (nee Skeels) of Leedale, Alberta, formerly of Crestomere, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, with family by her side, on Monday, December 26, 2011 at the age of 81 years.
Maryann was born on August 23, 1930. She loved her family, farming, gardening, made many wonderful batches of bread, worked hard her whole life, and will be sadly missed by all.
Maryann will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her three children, Shelley (Michael) Land of Rimbey; Kathy (Neil) Dixon of Eckville; Ken (Bonny) Olson of Rimbey; as well as ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her brothers: Roy of Crestomere, Verne (Sharon) of Red Deer, Leonard (Dianne) of Spruce Grove, and Gordon (Sandra) of Edmonton; and her sisters: Betty (Jim) Dolling of Nanaimo, B.C., Judy Fenwick (Mel Skaar) of Ponoka, and Susan (J.P.) Giasson of Sherwood Park; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Maryann was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Constance Skeels; her beloved husband, Gayhart in 1989; her son, Larry in 2001; two brothers, George and John; her sister, Margorie Belcourt; and her sisters-in-law, Audrey and Myrtle.
A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Maryann’s Life was held at the Lincoln Hall, Lacombe County, on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend James Strachan officiating. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. Interment will take place at a later date in the Gull Lake Cemetery, Gull Lake.
