RUDNIK

Mr. Max Walter Rudnik of Rimbey, Alberta and formerly of Hoadley passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the Rimbey Hospital & Care Centre on Thursday February 17, 2011 at the age of 87. Max was born on September 29, 1923 in East Germany one of three children born to Michael and Emma Rudnik. On December 15, 1950, Max was united in marriage to Lisa Hovemann. On June 18, 1951 Max and Lisa set sail from Germany to start their new life and family in Canada. They arrived in the Maritimes nine days later on June 18, 1951. The Maritimes was just a brief stopping point in their long journey however. They would soon board the train that would take them to their new home on Max’s Uncles farm in Bluffton, Alberta. Max and Lisa remained on the Boetcher farm for three years then rented land just West of Hoadley before purchasing their own farm in 1962. Max loved the country life. He raised cattle and kept meticulous records for each one, even giving each cow he owned a name. Max could tell you anything you would want to know about any cow that he had raised. He loved to read and always enjoyed puttering around. After the family built a large dugout on the farm and had it stocked with fish Lisa would enjoy going down to the pond and fishing. Max would spend hours sitting and watching his wife fish. Spending time with his family was always important to Max. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest thrill though. He loved spending time with them and always attended their School Christmas concerts, never missing a single one in twenty years. Predeceased by his loving wife Lisa on June 16, 2002 and by his parents and one brother Gerhard in February of 1945, Max is survived by his son; Dennis (Betty) Rudnik of Hoadley, two daughters; Marion (Reiner) Grab of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Anita Goetz of Rimbey, Joe Goetz of Bluffton and one sister Hilde Becker of Recklinghausen, Germany. Max also leaves to mourn and will be sadly missed by his nine grandchildren; Neil (Carrie) Goetz of Lacombe, Darren (Tina) Grab of Edmonton, Jody (Quinten "Jack") Skjonsberg of Bluffton, Janice (Steven) Grutterink of Bluffton, Crystal Grab of Edmonton, Michael Rudnik of Hoadley, Cody Rudnik of Hoadley, Morriah Rudnik of Hoadley, Corey Rudnik of Hoadley and five great grandchildren; Kasidy Skjonsberg, Denten Skjonsberg, Quaide Skjonsberg all of Bluffton and Julie Goetz and Ian Goetz of Lacombe. Funeral Services will be held from the Hoadley Community Hall on Monday March 7, 2011. Interment will follow in the Hoadley Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Rimbey Hospital & Care Centre for Long Term Care, PO Box 440 Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0.
