GLADWIN


Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Gladwin (nee Cork) of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre - Area Three, Rimbey on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Minnie was born on September 29, 1921 in Toronto, Ontario to Ruby and William "Bill" Cork. She was raised in Rimbey, Alberta, and later was united in marriage to Lester Gladwin in Rimbey in 1941. Together they resided in the Forshee District where they farmed and raised their children. Minnie was a wonderful wife and mother. She was also an active member of the Forshee Get-Together-Club. Following her retirement, Minnie traveled extensively and took pleasure in many hobbies such as: rock hounding, fishing, painting, quilting and craft work. She also enjoyed being an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Rimbey Branch No. 36.

Minnie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her devoted children, Alannah (Norm) Ronnie of Redwater, Alberta; Elvin (Connie) Gladwin of Bentley; Jack (Robbie) Gladwin, also of Bentley; and Joanne (Allison) Wright of Belize, Central America. Minnie was a wonderful grandmother to her twelve grandchildren and her twenty-three great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sisters, Alice (Murray) Graham of Vulcan, Alberta; and Fern Chaffee of Kelowna, B.C.; as well as many cousins and other extended family members and friends. Minnie was predeceased by her loving husband, Lester; her daughter, Patricia Gladwin; her parents, Bill and Ruby Cork; four brothers, Ronald, Harold ‘Bunny’, George and Leonard Cork; and one sister, Elsie Zelasek. A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Minnie’s Life will be held at the Rimbey Church of the Nazarene, Rimbey on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dave MacMillan officiating. Immediately following the Memorial Service, all are cordially invited to join the family for a time of fellowship and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Minnie’s Memory may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #6, 5015-48 Street, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 1S9; or to the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Rimbey Branch No. 36, Box 508, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0.
