Olive Florence CURTIS

June 4, 2005

Olive Florence Curtis of Winfield, Alberta passed

away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care

Centre, Rimbey, Alberta on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the

age of 74 years.

Olive was the only child born to Cecil and Mary

Shier on October 28, 1930 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

She was raised on the family farm near Colonsay,

Saskatchewan until her father’s passing. At that time,

Mary and Olive moved into Colonsay, where Mary

worked as a nurse and Olive worked in a café while

attending school. A few years later, Olive met and was

united in marriage to John Nazar, and to this union, one

child, Linda Mary Olive Nazar was born in 1957. Olive

and John resided in various locations in Saskatchewan

before John headed to Red Deer to work for AGT. Olive

and Linda followed in 1966. Olive babysat and took up

bowling, but she did not enjoy living in Red Deer until

she went to work at the new Woolco Store, where she

met many long-term friends. In 1975, Linda headed to

Calgary to attend school, and Olive met and married

Winston Curtis. Olive and Winston farmed in the

Winfield area for many years. Olive worked at the

Rimbey Co-op, then helped Linda and Henry when they

also moved to the Winfield area, by babysitting the girls,

Patty and Jody until they were old enough to stay home

alone. She was always willing to give a helping hand to

the Hoadley Happy Gang, and at any activities her

granddaughters were involved in; such as, band parent

activities and 4-H bingos. Olive was also active with

bingos for the Winfield Agricultural Society, and she

was secretary for the Draft Horse Pulling Club for many,

many years. She enjoyed horses all of her life. In July,

2004, Olive moved into the West Pine Lodge in Winfield

where she enjoyed playing cards and visiting with Gene

Davis, the other residents, and the homecare aides.

Olive will be lovingly remembered by her daughter,

Linda (Henry) Davis of Winfield; and two treasured

granddaughters, Patricia and Jody Davis, both of

Winfield. Henry’s Family also welcomed Olive into

their family, with all the nieces and nephews calling her

‘Gramma Olive.’ She will also be lovingly remembered

by the Curtis Family, many of which kept in close

contact with her. Olive was predeceased by her parents,

Mary and Cecil Shier.

Funeral Services in Celebration of Olive’s Life were

held at the Hoadley Community Hall, Hoadley on

Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend

Jeff Longard officiating. Interment followed in the

Hoadley Cemetery, Hoadley. In addition, a Memorial

Service for residents and staff was also held at the West

Pine Lodge, 5th Avenue and 4th Street, Winfield on Friday,

June 10, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorial
