CARR

Mr. Ralph H. Carr of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the age of 96 years.

Ralph was born to Howard Esty Carr and Jennie Elwilda Carr on the homestead at Michichi, Alberta on May 5, 1913. He was the third child in the family of eight children, four boys and four girls. A few years later, the family moved into Morrin, Alberta, where Howard Carr operated a machinery dealership and the boys attended school. In 1931, Ralph moved with his family to the farm in the Hoadley District. It was here that Ralph met many neighbors, including his future wife, Alfhild Lundstrom. In 1935, Ralph and Alfhild were united in marriage, and together they farmed across the road from the Liberty Hall in the Springdale District. In 1937, Ralph found work in the oil patch near Longview, Alberta, and later that year the family joined him. He went to work as a driller for Imperial Oil in 1942, up near Norman Wells in the Northwest Territories, returning to the farm in September of 1943. Ralph and Alfhild farmed for many years, along with their son, Wayne, until their retirement from full-time farming in 1978. They traveled, and enjoyed family reunions at the Liberty Hall.

Ralph will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his daughter, Doreen (Joe) Montalbetti of Rimbey; and his son, Wayne (Dianne) Carr of Bluffton; in addition to four grandchildren, Maureen (Rob) Adams; Shelley (Greg) Johnson; David Montalbetti; and Susan Montalbetti; as well as ten cherished great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by two sisters, Jean Packwood of Auckland, New Zealand; and Betty Reimer of Victoria, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ralph was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alfhild in 1989; three brothers; and two sisters.
