SMITH
Mr. Robert "Bob" Smith of Rimbey, Alberta and formerly of Eckville, Alberta passed away on Saturday October 5, 2013 in the Rimbey Hospital & Care Centre at the age of 90 years.
Robert was born on January 30, 1923 at Irvine, Alberta the youngest of six boys. Robert and family moved to the Kuusamo area when he was a small boy, then later to the Eckville area where the family farmed. On January 14, 1950 Robert married Kathleen Hebner of B.C. and together they raised a family of five children on a farm near Eckville.
Five years ago Robert and Kay moved to Rimbey, then recently moved into the Parkland Manor. Robert was a farmer all his life and truly enjoyed it. In their free time both Robert and Kay liked to camp, fish, travel and play cards. Robert was very proud of his Scottish heritage.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Kay, four sons and one daughter, Garry (Joanne), Dale (Valerie), Philip (Teresa), Kathy (Bill) Webb, Jim (Lori) and by eleven grandchildren; Jason, Colin (Christyn), Keith, Shelley (Jordan), Lewis, Kelly, Brennen, Jenna (Jesse) Webb, Stephen Webb, Madison, Teryn and Janine, as well as three great grandchildren Kassidy, Jocelynn and their mother Stephanie, and Kendall. Robert also leaves to mourn two sisters-in-law; Marlene Smith and Pauline (Ole) Anderson, numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Elizabeth, two grandsons Robert and Tristan, five brothers; George (Edna), John, Jim (Elsie), Tom (Janet), Bill (Jeanie), and by one brother-in-law Harry (Evelyn) Hebner.
Visitation was held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel in Rimbey, Alberta on Thursday October 10, 2013 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
A private family graveside service was held at the Eckville Cemetery on Friday October 11, 2013. A Celebration of Robert's Life followed in the Rimbey Community Centre on Friday October 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
