MATHESON


It is with sadness we regret to announce that Roy Elgin Matheson passed away June 3, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on April 5, 1931. As a child, he moved to Barrhead, AB and later became a police officer in the City of Calgary for eleven years. He left the force in 1964 to start the life of a Rancher near Breton, AB. Roy's greatest love was for God, his family and grandchildren, and his horses.

He is survived by his wife, Beryl; step-children, Tyler Untinen (Beatrice), Erica Block (Trevor), Matt Untinen (Heidi); ten grandchildren, Daniel, Josiah, Caleb, Timothy, Tobias, Gabriel, Abigail Untinen and Colin, Marten, and Alexander Block. Also survived by five sisters; Ina McKinnon, Janet Whitrow, Beatrice Knorr, Maxine James (Richard), and Elizabeth Prosch as well as many extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Ella Matheson and brothers, Lawrence, Harold, Norman, Howard, and Richard. He is also predeceased by brothers'-in-law, Stuart McKinnon, Nathaniel Whitrow, Heinz Prosch and step-son Travis Untinen.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Breton Community Centre. Interment to follow at Bunker Hill Cemetery located near Winfield, Alberta.
