LUCAS

Mr. Roy G. Lucas of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the age of 76 years.

Roy was born the youngest of twin boys on June 28, 1935 in Claresholm, Alberta to Albert and Thelma Lucas. He spent his childhood in various locations around southern and central Alberta. In 1955, Roy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Georgina Bulbeck, and they settled in Bragg Creek for the winter. In the spring of 1956, they moved to Gilbert Ranches where Roy was employed as ranch manager. Their first daughter, Rita was born in 1956, followed by Sheila in 1958. Roy and Georgina purchased their own property west of Cochrane in 1959. Their third daughter, Gail was born in 1960, followed by the youngest daughter, Zina in 1963. The family moved to Rimbey that year, purchasing a section of land in the Meadowvale area where they enjoyed many years of mixed farming. Roy was active as a 4-H leader, was a member on the rodeo board, was involved in both the Meadowvale and Last West community halls, and was instrumental in the construction of the Last West Hall. In 1991, Roy and Georgina sold the farm and semi-retired to a quarter of land closer to Rimbey. He took a job herding cattle in the Ram Falls area in 1993, spending his summers on horseback and often with the company of his grandchildren. His winters were spent working in his leather shop. Roy was a man who always put his family first, and he had a tremendous influence in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

"He will be greatly missed and forever cherished by all."

Roy will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 56 years, Georgina; and his four daughters, Rita Lucas (Bill Campbell) of Cochrane; Sheila (Kevin) Reis of Rimbey; Gail (Walter) Loov of Benalto; and Zina (Rick) Paul of Calgary; as well as fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by two sisters, Helen (John) Thomas of Lamont; and Lynne Urkevich of Drayton Valley; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Lucas of Bluffton; in addition to many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Roy was predeceased by his parents; his twin brother, Wray; and his sister, Muriel.
