HAARSTAD
Ruby Ione Haarstad, beloved wife of Harvey Haarstad, of Bentley, AB. passed away at the Lacombe Regional Hospital on Wed., August 11, 2010, at the age of 81 years. She fought a courageous and dignified battle with cancer. Ruby was born on March 8, 1929 in Rimbey, AB. to Rasmine and William Woods. She attended school at Lockhart School and was married to Harvey Haarstad on Jan. 25, 1948. She was a proud farm wife; helping with chores, cooking great meals and raising five children. She loved spending time with her family and friends and she treasured her community. Ruby was pre-deceased by her brother Clarence Woods; her grandson, Jay Screpnek and her daughter Cheryl Screpnek. Ruby is survived by Harvey, her loving husband of 62 years and by her daughter Lynda (Garry) Petten and sons; Everett (Sherry) Haarstad, Ken (Leslie) Haarstad and Larry (Donna) Haarstad. Grandma Ruby will be very much missed by her 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren as well as a host of extended family and friends. A celebration of Ruby's life will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010, and friends and family are invited to the Inurnment and graveside service at the Vig Cemetary, Grace Lutheran Church, at 11:30 am, followed by a memorial service at the Bentley Ag. Centre at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to S.T.A.R.S or Lacombe Ambulance Service or to a charity of the donor's choice.
