During the early hours of August 25, 2020, Rudolf Belter, 96, passed peacefully to his heavenly home. Born in Mydzk, Poland, Rudolf served in the German military during WWII and was sent to campaign on the Russian front.
He emigrated to Canada in 1950 to be reunited with his family after serving as a Russian POW for 7 years. He and his family settled in Bluffton, AB, where they ran a cattle farm, retiring in 2005 first to Rimbey and then moved to Barrhead in January of 2006 to be closer to family. His wife, Erna, predeceased him in 2007 and Rudolf moved to the Keir Care Centre in 2014 where he resided until his passing.
Rudolf is predeceased by an infant son, Theo Rudolf, siblings Elsa, Waldemar (1) in Omsk, Siberia, Albert, Samuel, Robert (his twin) in Mydzk, Poland, Waldemar (2) in Germany & Herman in Latvia as soldiers in WWII, Theodore in Edmonton October 2018 and Martha in Rimbey June 2020, and parents August and Karoline Belter.
He is survived by children Frieda Gatzke, Herb (Léa) Belter, Linda (Charles) Saunders, Paul (Theresa) Belter, and Rita (Steve) Lyster, grandchildren Joyce, Ervin, Cheryl, Terri, Gary, Christine, Crystal, Danica, Karen, Lester, Terry, Alyssa, Pamela, Daniel, Caroline, Caitlin, and Chelsea, twenty-four great- grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.
His life will be celebrated Tuesday, September 1, 2020 from Barrhead United Church by invitation only due to current COVID restrictions. Interment to follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
