FERGUSSON

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Fergusson after a long battle with Pancreatic cancer. Sharon passed with her family at her side at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the age of 65 years.

Sharon was born at Assiniboia Saskatchewan and was raised on the family farm near Rockglen Saskatchewan until she graduated and then attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Art School where she met and later married her husband, Rob Fergusson. They were married on Oct.11, 1968 and lived in Calgary Alberta until 1976 when they moved to Rimbey to start an automotive parts store.

Sharon was an accomplished artist, gardener, and rider. Her life long love of horses dominated her life and over her career she won many barrel racing and gymkhana events as well as becoming a well known breeder and trainer. She was the driving force behind the organization of the Canadian Barrel Horse Incentive program which has grown to become the largest stallion incentive in Canada, and was a life long member and supporter of the Alberta Quarter Horse Association.

Sharon is survived by her husband Rob, their son Jason, his wife Leigh, and grandson Tristan. She is also survived by her daughter Alison, husband Pat Low, grandson Cody, and granddaughter Cassidy. Sharon was predeceased by her daughter Glenna who passed on June 15 2005 at the age of 31 years, and her parents Mathilda and Llewellyn Cartwright. Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her sister Elaine Johnson, husband Paul and their extended family, as well as her brothers Alois, Stanley, Elwyn and their families.

A Celebration of Sharon's life was held from the Peter Lougheed Community Centre in Rimbey, Alberta on Thursday May 15, 2014 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Deborah Laing officiating.
