BUTCHER, Shirley Ann

With family members at her side, Shirley Ann Butcher, (nee Moore) of Bentley, passed away January 21st, 2005, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bentley May 20th, 1925, she grew up attending the Centerview and Rimbey schools. She married Ken Butcher in 1948, raising 4 children on their family farm west of Bentley. Upon Ken’s passing in 1974, Shirley moved into the town of Bentley, maintaining the country values and expressions, with continued hard work, dedication and honesty to all. These values clearly showed in the hand made gifts given to family members for birthdays, Christmas and special occasions. Her other roles in life included being a secretary for the Blindman Hog Pool Association and the Village of Bentley, Mercantile employee and clerk at the Post Office. She enjoyed the 44 years as a Charter member of the Bentley chapter of the O.O.R.P. With her country values and her love of farming, Shirley supported and helped in many ways with the Farmers Market, the Bentley Fair and Rodeo, 4-H and community events. Shirley leaves to mourn daughters Diane in Edmonton, and Donna (Rick) Park of Bentley. Also sons Garry (Cindy), who is the 2nd generation farmer of Bentley and Garth (Shannon) of Bentley/Gull Lake; 8 grandchildren, their spouses, and 7 great grandchildren. In keeping with Mom’s wish, there was an informal get-together at the Elks Legion Hall, Bentley, on Sunday January 30th, 2005 from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M. The family wishes to compile a memorial album, made up of short stories to “reflect, learn and remember.” Submissions to the album may be given to one of her children, mailed or E-mailed to butcherg@telusplanet.net. In lieu of flowers, Mom would prefer donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Red Deer Hospital palliative care unit, or to a charity of the donors choosing.
