After John passed away in 1997, Shirley moved into Rimbey. She then relocated to Red Deer in 2005, where she made many new friends at the old-time dances. In 2013 Shirley moved back to Rimbey, where she resided until her passing.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her five children Carleen and Jiun Shigematsu of Red Deer; Bob and Chiko Hancik of Lacombe; Dick and Marj Hancik of Rimbey; Connie and Mike Stang of Calgary; and Brenda and Phil Soderberg of Bluffton; as well as thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
