Velvet L. Makofka of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Area Three on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the age of 94 years. She was born to Alice and James Broadbent on February 25, 1922 on the farm west of Rimbey.
Velvet will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her three sons: Ward (Peggy) Makofka; Gerard (Denice) Makofka; and Charlie (Karen) Makofka, all of Rimbey; her daughter, Laurie Schweer of Hines Creek, Alberta; and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Makofka of Rimbey; as well as seventeen cherished grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sister, Marjorie Campbell of Summerland, B.C.; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends. Velvet was predeceased by her former husband, John in 1998; her son, Elliott in 1996; her son-in-law, George Schweer; one grandson, Phillip Schweer; one great grandson, Cordell Hicky; three brothers: Albert, James, and Alfred; and one sister, Kathleen Gollnick.
A Public Funeral Service in Celebration of Velvet’s Life was held at the Iola Hall, near Bluffton, Alberta on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor David Beaudoin officiating. Interment followed in the Iola Fairview Cemetery, Bluffton.
