Feb 14, 1936 - Jan 17, 2018
Verlie Janet Algar passed away peacefully at Wentworth Manor in Calgary at the age of 81.

She was born in Provost, AB on February 14, 1936, and was the second of four children.

Her family homesteaded in the Rimbey area of Alberta and became prominent grain and cattle farmers. She completed high school in Rimbey, married Mel Algar and supported him in various business enterprises around Alberta, eventually landing in Calgary, which has been her home for nearly six decades.

A loving and proud mother, grandma and great-grandma, she was especially fond of family dinners; in her home while her health permitted, and at her favourite restaurants later on. She had wonderful sense of humour, was fun-loving and enjoyed a good laugh.

She and her partner Gerry Forsythe enjoyed many joyful times prior to his passing three years ago. She was an accomplished artist and avid curler, having been a member of the Calgary Curling Club for many years. To her last day, she was a zealous and knowledgeable fan of curling, never missing a televised game of any consequence. She was so pleased that a Calgary team won the right to represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

She is survived by her brother Allen Olson; sons, Kevin (Jordana) and Darren Algar; grandsons, Garrett (Katelyn), Ryan, Ward and Justin Algar; granddaughter Victoria Algar; and great-granddaughters, Dakota and Raylene Algar. She was predeceased by her son Mark Algar; brothers, Lorne and Glenn Olson; and her parents Elmer and Ragna Olson.
